Check Out Your Home Inspector Carefully!
As one of your largest lifetime purchases, your future depends on making informed choices.
Questions:
- Does
your inspector belong to a nationally recognized home inspection association? In Canada, the Canadian Association of Home & Property
Inspectors (CAHPI) is the only association recognized by governments and real estate professionals.
- Does your inspector have an actual
office and is his/her telephone number and contact information listed in the telephone book? Is he/she registered as an official business
in Canada?
- Is your inspector either a Registered Home Inspector (RHI) or a National Certificate Holder. All experienced legitimate
home inspectors in Canada have attained at least one of the above designations.
- Don't fall for the claim of being Certified! It means
nothing as anyone can claim to be certified by any bogus group, company, or association.
- Did your inspector obtain his credentials
from an ad on the back of a match book cover, a magazine ad, or a quick "everything you need" school, advertising on TV? Legitimate
training facilities do not use such deceptive advertising.
